 #10 - He used to wear wrestling shoes on his show and never

             kicked anyones ass.

 #9 - Sorry Michael Strahan…Dave was The 1st gap toothed

             talk show host.

  #8 - He always helped Paul Shaffer shine his head 

             before each Late Show.

  #7 - Two words… Monkey Cam

  #6 - He was awkward… and he made awkward people...
         feel cool & awkward.

  #5 - When a joke didn’t work…who could tell.

  #4 - His mother was funnier…than he was.

  #3 - James Brown thought Dave was Funky….not funny.

  #2 -  I got to see Dave Letterman in person…at The                                                        
Ed Sullivan   Theater…3rd row… when Tom Hanks was the guest…Oct. 7th, 2013… and I’ll never forget it as  long as I live. 

   And the Number One reason…Dave is The Best

  #1 - He still wears that Velcro suit…and always sticks the landing.

    And the Real Reason, I, Tim Wilkins,

    think David Letterman, is and  was,

  #1A - Because it took me no time at all to write this…and maybe

            Dave is ingrained in me after 33 years…and I appreciate that…

       

         Dave, may not have been your cup of tea…he is intelligently stupid…He is what happens when there is no adult supervision… and David Letterman always, always made me smile… and when you think about it…That’s pretty damn important in everyone’s life.  #ThanksDave

 I’m thinking about all the hours

I have spent with you Dave…

Now you’re leaving us with the Jimmy’s…

when you were always my Fav.

You were such a good friend 

…and you didn’t even know

that I was there watching…

 you on The Late Show

Letterman says he’s gotta go

and 33 years has been a good run

No more monologues and bad jokes….Why Dave?

Darn you… that was half the fun

 No more Paul and the band

and his funny banter & laughs

No more funny bits…

and you throwing stuff through glass

 But… that’s OK… I won’t be sad

because there’s no Top 10 

…’Cause I’ll watch you on

…You Tube… again and again

But… don’t take away our memories

of Stupid Pet Tricks… and Larry Bud Melman 

and don’t stop throwing melons off…

I won’t miss you talking with Cher, Madonna,
Oprah, and Drew Barrymore

I’ll miss Rupert, Gerard Mulligan,

Chris Elliot, and Brother Theodore

 I’ll miss the smiles from the audience and 

“The guy under the seats”

…and you and your friends

 goofin’ with the people…

out on the streets

I’ll miss Biff, Alan Kalter,

Will & Sid

I’ll miss your Mom, Regis 

& Joaquin Phoenix 

and all the silly things you did

I’ll miss the musical intro 

…and you running across stage… 

I’ll miss the Late Show music guests

…where we all became of age

 I’ll miss you Dave…

when your gone…

and I’ll miss U2, The Foo Fighters,
 Pearl Jam …& Warren Zevon

Because I know they made you smile…

This was the music that turned you on

Seinfeld, MacDonald, 

Baldwin and Murray

Fey, Short, 

Martin, and Altman…were all gone in a hurry

You see, David Letterman…you knew, who was funny…

you know what was funny…

and you’re funny…because…

you are different…from the rest

…sarcastic and awkward… and it was all in jest

…and when you took me into your world

You made me care about this Late Show place…

and laugh with your family 

 for an hour …a generation lost in space 

…and I like that…a lot…I like going there

 I used our old VCR

to tape you each night

and would sit around …

on my lunch hour…

and laugh with each bite

I would chuckle by myself…LOL…

before it was something on the internet

… and for that… I am forever grateful…

and I’ll never regret

And another thing… who else could do

what you have done…thru all the worlds ups and downs?
